Bordesley Centre

Location: Sparkbrook

Strategic Investment Plan: Enterprising Communities

The main objective of this project has been to make the Bordesley Centre fit for being a 'bridge to success' for more than 6500 people of the Minority Ethnic Communities in the wards of Sparkbrook, Sparkhill and Small Heath who use the centre weekly to access various services

This project represents a breakthrough in terms of the scale and range of intervention by a community based organisation that has demonstrated that it can match aspirations with commitment and delivery.  Mu'ath Welfare Trust, the organisation that runs the project, has established a large sustainable service delivered through partnership with a range of statutory and voluntary organisations.

The main focus is on: education and training, job matching and enterprise.

The positive outcomes of this are:

  • Reduction in skills shortages and skills gap experienced by businesses
  • Reduced numbers without qualifications (25+)
  • Improved educational attainment, worforce skills, soft and language skills, at NVQ 3 and above (25+)
