The West Midlands Centre for Constructing Excellence

The West Midlands Centre for Constructing Excellence (WMCCE) provides specialist business improvement assistance specifically to help local businesses in the construction and building technologies sectors. It undertakes research, disseminates good practice through business networks and provides individual help to local businesses in the construction and building technologies sectors.
Over 425 businesses in the region have been assisted so far, subsidised through AWM and ERDF funding. WMCCE also provide skills development and training in management and leadership for construction and sustainable development.
There is a Best Practice Club for Birmingham which companies can join to share knowledge, learn about new techniques and develop a culture of business improvement. See http://www.birmingham-bpc.co.uk/
WMCCE is able to offer support to SME?s on all aspects of sustainable construction (defined as providing buildings that use less virgin material, less pollution and waste with minimum impact on the environment, but which meet the needs of the community and the built environment):
Until the end of 2008 there is a programme that offers up to 5 days external support, with benefits that could include reduced energy consumption, increased market awareness, new marketing materials, independent product sustainability ratings, and savings in material usage.
Recent reports on the sustainable construction market are available to download from the website www.wmcce.org, where there is also a rolling diary of relevant events.
